Arts & Crafts

In the high Himalayan Mountains, colors take on an intensity and beauty that often seem almost unreal to the traveler coming from the plains. The deep green of the valleys and hillsides, the vivid blue colors of swift flowing rivers and skies and the snow-capped peaks above brown gold alpine pastures form the backdrop of Bhutanese artist’s work. The skill of Bhutan’s craftsman in working with bronze, silver and other fine metals is evident in their handicrafts. Sculpting of religious figures is widely practiced, and every temple contains large, brightly painted and gilded statues of the Buddha and other saints.
