The Economy

Bhutanese economy is predominantly agrarian. Agriculture and livestock raising are the mainstay of the economy. However, in the gross national product they only account for a little less than half of the total (45 percent). Forestry represents 15 percent, while industry and mining, in their nascent stages of development, account for 10 percent. Trade is also expanding at a spectacular rate. The Bhutanese government strictly bans the export of any religious antiques from the Kingdom.
