Way of Life

The social structure of Bhutan is not sagged by the rigidity of the caste system. Bhutanese men wear a Gho, which is longish, robe tied around the waist by a small belt, know as kera. The women’s ankle length dress is called kira, which are brightly colored, finely woven fabrics with traditional patterns. The Bhutanese way of life is greatly influenced by religion. People circumambulating the chortens with prayers beads and twirling prayer wheels are a common sight. Every Bhutanese home has a special room used for prayer, which is known as a chosum (altar).
