Bhutan’s national airline, Druk Air, is
the only airline operating in Bhutan. All flights to Bhutan
fly into Paro, which is the Kingdom’s only airport. Flights
to and from Kathmandu and Delhi take place three times a
week. There are five flights per week to and from Kolkottta
and Bangkok. During monsoons, unpredictable weather forces
can delay flights and travelers are advised to include an
extra day in their itinerary.

Overland
Bagdogra is the closest Indian airport to
Bhutan. Flights from Kolkotta or Delhi to Bagdogra are
available. From Bagdogra, one enters Bhutan at Phuentsholing,
on the border of India and Bhutan. It is a 4-5 hour drive
from Bagdogra airport to Phuentsholing on the border. Travel
from Darjeeling or Gangtok (Sikkim) to Phuensholing will
take about 7 hours. From Phuentsholing to Thimphu or Paro it
takes approximately 6 hours. |
